Ammonomicon Tarnisher

Rust Belt
Half-holster, half-monster, the Tarnisher subsists on an diet largely consisting of guns. Strangely, this makes it both a bottom-feeder and an apex predator within the Gungeon.

The Tarnisher doesn't just like guns - it like likes guns.

Tarnishers are bag-like enemies that sink into the floor and chase the player. If it successfully catches the player, it will swallow the player and shortly after spit them back out, dealing damage, partially drain the current gun's ammo, and reduce the magazine size of all of the player's guns until they pick up ammo. Tarnishers will be momentarily immune to bullets when they begin chase.

Once they stop chasing, they will remain stationary for a moment before giving chase again.

Clearing the room after getting caught by the Tarnisher at least once will unlock the Hungry Bullets.

Notes

  • It is possible to out-run a Tarnisher if speed-ups are applied, but under normal circumstances the player will have to either keep a large distance while constantly moving away from it or dodge roll over a pit where the Tarnisher will foolishly follow into its demise.

Trivia

  • The Tarnisher is a reference to the Like Like from the Legend of Zelda series.
  • The Tarnisher is currently the largest enemy that can fall down a pit.
