This brightly colored gun changes shape at regular intervals, making it a little hard to hold onto. That said, you're sure to have a whale of a time firing it!

GuNNER is a gun. It fires golden bullets, which make a red skull effect when hitting an enemy.

While holding GuNNER, whenever the player takes damage, 40 ammo is drained and a blue skull spawns nearby that disappears after a few seconds. Picking up the skull heals the player. If damage is taken while the skull is out, it will disappear. If the player does not have at least 40 ammo, the skull will not spawn.

Notes[ | ]

  • Synergy Heads Up - If the player also has Stone Dome, Stone Dome will shoot skulls instead.
  • Synergy Whale of a Time - If the player also has Backpack, there's a chance a skull will spawn when getting hit to recover lost health, even if the player has another weapon equipped while getting hit.
  • Picking up the skull while playing as The Robot will give you 1 armor.
  • If the player has the Holey Grail, then as long as they keep picking up the blue skull after getting hit and don't take hits from Jammed enemies/bosses, they will never run out of health and ammo.
    • However, this is difficult as the Holey Grail also causes a blank each time you are hit, and the skulls disappear after a relatively short time. Items or guns that increase speed can assist with retrieval.
  • If the player has Antibody, the skull has a chance to heal for a full heart.
  • The skull does not consume ammo if the player is under the effects of Magazine Rack.
  • The skull will not appear when feeding the Vampire.
  • This gun can effectively trade armor for health, as damage to armor will still produce the skull. This may be useful if one wants to use Blasphemy's sword beam or sell health to the Vampire.

Trivia[ | ]

  • This gun is a reference to the game GoNNER. It functions very similarly to the game's health mechanic - upon taking damage, the player loses their "skull", weapon, and backpack, and can pick them back up for more health.
    • The Whale of a Time Synergy is a reference to Sally, the helpful whale at the end of each of GoNNER's stages. The skulls spawning with any weapon is most likely a reference to how Sally gives the player health upgrades at the end of a stage.
